America and I hadn't planned to spend the day at the Michigan State Fair. Our sons, all 17, planned for one last thrill before summer's end. They're responsible enough to attend the fair on their own. However, a shooting and death of a 14-year-old the night before at the fair required all minors to be accompanied by adults (and I wouldn't want them there on their own anyway). So, plans for the day changed last minute and I decided to tote my camera along.
As America said, "Everyone is always happy at the fair." There is something bright, colorful, easy, and open about riding the rides, eating the foods, and being out with people on a beautiful day. There are too few innocent, simple, joyful moments in life; we have to seize every single one.
