The view from the doorway window on the train between Zûrich, Switzerland and Northern Italy as we make our way to the Ligurian Coast. The Trenitalia train we scheduled broke down in the Zûrich station before even embarking on the full-day journey. The passengers on our train had to board an already-full "slow" train to the Italian border. A kind woman picked up her child and held him on her lap to allow my then seven-year-old son to sit in a seat, I stood in the doorway vestibule, leaning against the wall and hand bar for stability. within visible sight of him as we rolled along the track. My husband was somewhere on the train with our baggage; we wouldn't know where until much later. I watched out the window as the villages came into focus momentarily. I love the framing and colors of this image -- the village framed perfectly within the wires and rail posts and the contrast of the white and salmon stucco against the dark green trees.
