SOCIAL DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER

SOCIAL DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

Documentary photography preserves moments of truth that define our shared human experience. It transcends mere aesthetics, serving as a visual record of social, political, and emotional realities.  I aim to create photographs that recount powerful narratives and evoke empathy, awareness, and reflection.  I offer an unfiltered lens into The American Mythology, particularly into the definition of the American dream. Through this medium, we are encouraged to see the world not just as it is, but as it affects those who live within it.

NO KINGS, DETROIT

June 14, 2025  --  DETROIT, MI  --  Detroit hosted a significant "No Kings" rally at Clark Park, attracting thousands of demonstrators. This event was part of a nationwide series of over 2,000 protests across all 50 states, organized to oppose President Donald Trump's perceived authoritarian policies and the lavish military parade celebrating the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary on his 79th birthday.

Beginning in Clark Park in Mexicantown, the rally featured speeches from local leaders, live music, and community engagement activities. Participants expressed concerns over issues such as civil rights, government accountability, and the militarization of democracy. The event was peaceful, with attendees emphasizing the importance of democratic values and rejecting the notion of monarchical leadership.  The rally continued with a 2.5 mile march to the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building on Michigan Avenue.

The "No Kings" movement, named by the 50501 coalition, symbolizes a collective stand against authoritarianism, advocating for a government that serves the people rather than consolidating power in the hands of a few.

May 21, 2025  --  FLINT, MI  --  The EPA officially lifted the Flint water emergency on Monday, declaring the water safe after nine long years. I visited Flint twice this week to see for myself.

Residents remain deeply skeptical. The fear and frustration haven’t faded. Some still grapple with long-term illness. Many still use bottled water. Not one resident has seen a cent of the $626M settlement approved in 2021. The poverty rate persists at 34.4%. Flint may be declared clean, but the stubborn stain remains.

2013 - 2024  --  NOVI, MI  --  The Michigan State Fair, established in 1849, is one of the oldest in the U.S., celebrating the state's agricultural heritage, industry, and community pride. It showcases local farming, crafts, and entertainment, fostering cultural unity. After a 2009 hiatus and the closing of the historical Detroit-based fair grounds, it revived privately in Novi, maintaining its significance in Michigan’s cultural and historical identity.

2022 - 2025  -- METRO DETROIT, MI  --  The coney dog is a beloved local tradition in Detroit. This iconic dish consists of a hot dog topped with chili, onions, and mustard, typically served in a steamed bun. While versions of Coney dogs can be found across the United States, Detroit's version is particularly significant to the city's culture and history.

March 5, 2020  --  HAMTRAMCK, MI  --  Pączki Day, celebrated on Fat Tuesday before Lent, holds special significance for Metro Detroiters, particularly those of Polish descent. The tradition originated in Poland, where people would fry rich pastries called pączki to use up ingredients like sugar, eggs, and lard before the fasting season began. Polish immigrants brought this custom to Detroit in the early 20th century, especially in the enclave of Hamtramck, which became a cultural hub for Polish-Americans . . . read more.
