MISS CRAZY CRACKERS

If ever a mother loved a child, it is this little girl's. Ms. Crazy Crackers (not her real name, of course, but my special nickname for her . . . and she knows why . . .) came to visit on a cold, October day.  She is full of energy and light and life and her parents wanted to capture her keen, sharp eyes.  She twirled and danced in the natural light and we created beauty in motion.

After selecting an album and two masterpiece finish framed canvases late last fall, Mom asked if I would store the pieces for a time as their house was undergoing renovation.  Of course!  Little did we know COVID would prolong the delivery for another three months, until today.

Delivering an installing the canvases was my first official "put on pants" professional outing in three months (nice blue linen summer pants with a white cotton dress shirt and sweater over the shoulder - I felt to "summer") complete with makeup and jewelry to boot.  It was a glorious warm and sunny day and I cranked up the chill house music as I glided smoothly along the freeway with the sunroof open and the music loud enough to vibrate the rear view mirror.  It felt great to feel so good again.

We hung the canvases on the newly-painted cool gray walls in the renovated house.  They are the first things to grace the walls.  And they make the room come alive.

As I left, I was reminded that I am meant to do this work.  Time away from the grind of running a small business was exactly what I needed to bring my heart and soul back to my art.  To see it anew.  To remember why.  Making this art and making others happy is what makes me truly happy.

I am a driven, high-energy person.  Before COVID, I worried (a lot!) about things.  Time.  Money.  Details that matter.  Details that don't.  I have had a shift in perspective about a lot of things lately, not the least of which is my work.

I am blessed to do it.  I want to do it always.  I want to see the joy in this little girl's eyes and in the eyes of her loving mother, who adores her more than life.
